Chan Kang is Liu Kang's younger brother whose sole appearance was in the first Mortal Kombat movie.
In the film, after his older brother left the Shaolin Monks and went to America, Chan took his place and began training for the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament. One night, Shang Tsung visited the Monks' Temple and confronted Chan. The two fought, but Chan was easily defeated by the sorcerer, who killed Chan and took his soul. Chan's dead body was found the next morning by his grandfather and fellow Monks.
Liu Kang enters the tournament to avenge his death. Throughout the movie, Liu Kang harbors feelings of guilt for not being able to protect his brother. During the final battle between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, the latter attempts to lure Liu Kang to his death by morphing into his brother. While initially shocked by the image of Chan, Liu doesn't fall for the trick, however, and defeats Shang Tsung which results in the release of all the souls that had been taken by Shang Tsung, including Chan's, who greets his brother. Before ascending to the afterlife, he tells Liu that his spirit will always be with him until they are reunited.
Chan was portrayed by Steven Ho. [1]
