Overview

An axe (sometimes spelled as ax in American English) is an implement that has been used for millennia to shape, split and cut wood, to harvest timber, as a weapon, and as a ceremonial or heraldic symbol. The axe has many forms and specialized uses but generally consists of an axe head with a handle, or helve.

The weapon is used by Ermac in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. This is Ermac's trademark weapon in the latter two games, along with his telekinetic powers. In the latter games, Ermac's axe also takes a much more personalized appearance.

The origins of the axe could be somehow related to those of Ermac himself, which explains the emblem's incredible resemblance to Ermac's gem.

In the Story Mode Intro of Armageddon, it is possible to see a dead Masked Guard's axe lying beside their corpse. The Axe can also be used by a created character in Armageddon.

Scorpion and Human Smoke also use them in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. In these games they are double-bit just like the Battle Axe, albeit with a shortened handle.

In Mortal Kombat 11, Sub-Zero utilizes Ice Axes as well as an Ice Pollaxe during gameplay. The Ice Axes can be customized through the game's gear Kustomization for gameplay cosmetics, however the Ice Pollaxe remains the same. Guest character Spawn also uses a shortened Battle Axe that resembles Agony, during gameplay as well.
