NetherRealm Studios is an American video game developer based in Chicago, Illinois. The company was founded in May 2010 to replace Midway Games before Midway filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. NetherRealm is the developer of the ninth instalment of the Mortal Kombat series for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as the tenth and eleventh games circa 2015 and 2019. The studio is led by industry veteran Ed Boon.
