Kaginawa

A Kaginawa, an antique Japanese iron climbing hook.

A grappling hook is an anchor with multiple hooks (claws, flukes), attached to a rope; it is thrown, dropped, sunk, projected, or fastened directly by hand to where at least one hook may catch and hold.

Generally, grappling hooks are used to temporarily secure one end of a rope. They may also be used to dredge for submerged objects.

Historically, grappling hooks were used in naval warfare to catch ship rigging so that it could be boarded.

In Mortal Kombat[]

In the franchise, the character Mavado uses them, both as special moves and in his Fatality in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, after Mavado was defeated by Taven, he uses them to escape from him. They also appear as a collectible Relic in the Konquest mode of Armageddon, under the name Mavado's Hooks.

In Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Batman utilizes a grapple gun in his moveset.
