Overview

The Fire Well is an arena that appears to be surrounded by fire and its walls are decorated with the skeletal remains of defeated warriors. The skulls of some fighters even litter the floor, and hellfire burns endlessly and deeply behind the arena's grates. This arena made its debut in Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold. The arena returned in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon with an updated version of itself.

Overview[]

The skulls that litter the ground can also be used as throwing weapons against your opponent. There appears to be only one entrance from a dark hallway. The Fire Well might be part of the hoary Netherrealm, as hellfire burns endlessly and deeply behind the grates, and the fallen Elder God Shinnok awaits challengers to add to his collection of mutilated bodies. It is where the heroes of Mortal Kombat battled with him in order to save the realms.

In Mortal Kombat 4, a dark path leads into a room lit by the fire of a large furnace. The floor was dusty in front of it. At the centre of the furnace, directly across from the entrance is a large opening that reveals its flames. On each side of this opening are two smaller circular ones. At the far left of the entrance is a path enclosed by 3 horizontal and 3 vertical metal bars.

In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The Fire Well was updated and this time, the fight starts on top of a huge huge furnace with a vast opening and fire was still lit. On both sides are grates with fire and conveyor belts were carrying blocks of stone to the bottom. On both sides, twin steel presses crush the stones on the conveyor belts. The ground on top of the furnace was made of metal. Above them was a huge ventilation shaft covered with metal grille. Chains with hooks dangle from above.

On its bottom level, the electronic metal shutters on the lava bed were closed. On both sides of the Fire Well, behind the walls full of skulls, conveyor belts operate with large steel wheel at their ends, crushing blocks of stone. Lava flows behind the conveyor belt. At the opposite of the furnace is a huge grate. Should a kombatant lose sense of their footing and be knocked onto the belt, their life would soon end as their bones are ground into powder. In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon a Hot Poker can be found on the bottom level which can be picked up and used in combat.

Trivia[]

  • There was an original sketch of the Fire Well but it wound up as a sketch in the Krypt and Kontent gallery special features of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. This concept was later incorporated into what is now the Lava Shrine.
