Human Smoke was a playable character in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy, originally introduced as an entirely restored Smoke who had at last managed to undo his transformation into a cyborg at the hands of the Lin Kuei. Human Smoke's MKT Ending reduces him to a memory of Smoke's former life and, therefore, a non-canonical "bonus character" within the third tournament's storyline.

Biography
Edit
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3/Mortal Kombat Trilogy: "In his human form, Smoke was a lethal assassin working for the Lin Kuei. But when they decided to automate their ninjas, Smoke is caught in the middle. He became a cyborg assassin, whose human form would exist as a memory forever more."
Signature Moves
Edit
- Spear: Human Smoke would send out a rope tipped with a Kunai at the end to impale the victim and pull them through the air towards him for a free hit and would cause minor damage. This move is taken directly from Scorpion. (UMK3, MKT)
- Teleport Punch: Human Smoke teleports behind his opponent, connecting with a punch. He could perform it in the air. This move is also taken directly from Scorpion. (UMK3, MKT)
- Air Throw: While in the air, Human Smoke grabs the opponent and throw them back on the ground. This move is taken directly from Scorpion. (UMK3, MKT)
Finishers
Edit
Fatalities
Edit

- Inviso-Possession: Human Smoke enters his opponent's body and bashes their internal organs before exploding and ripping their body to shreds. (MKT)
- Teleport Smash: Human Smoke teleports and punches his opponent's head off. (MKT)
Other Finishers
Edit
- Friendship #1: Smoke winds up a box which makes a giant skull pop out of it scaring off his opponent. It was taken from Scorpion. (UMK3)
- Friendship #2: A "No Smoking" sign appears and he and anyone else stops emitting smoke. (MKT)
- Animality: Smoke turns into a porcupine and shoots quills into his opponent until they explode. (MKT)
Endings
Edit
- Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: (Non-canonical) "Winning the tournament enables Smoke to escape his artificial body. He then devotes his life to study the fighting skills of his counter part ninjas: Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile. Without warning, Smoke once again vanishes... He retreats into the hidden forest to continue his study, and will remain there until he has perfected the skills of the remaining ninjas and can compete in Mortal Kombat 4.
- Mortal Kombat Trilogy: "Before his transformation into a cybernetic ninja, Smoke was one of the Lin Kuei's finest ninjas. It was during this time that he came to know his greatest ally - Sub-Zero. When the Lin Kuei decided to automate their warriors, the two attempted to escape. While Sub-Zero successfully eluded capture, Smoke did not. He would become a robotic nightmare, his soul trapped inside a living machine. In his human form Smoke was a fierce warrior. In his mechanical body he is even more lethal. But his true form is that of a human, one he'll know again only in dreams."
Character Relationships

Trivia
Edit
- In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, since Robot Smoke is fully playable, if the "Winner of this round fights Smoke" (205 205) kode is used, instead of fighting Robot Smoke, Human Smoke will be fought on the Lost Portal level.
- In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, he was initially an actual part of the storyline. His ending described that he was able to somehow escape his artificial body, and had entered training in preparation for Mortal Kombat 4. However, Mortal Kombat Trilogy retconned this, and he was then described as being a non-canon character; simply how he remembered himself.
- Performing a Fatality that involves decapitation or dismemberment on Human Smoke in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 will result in the palette distorting into a mix of black and gray.
- In the original arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Human Smoke can be seen during the attract mode with a versus screen picture, which is impossible normally because the player can only use him by selecting Robot Smoke, and using a code to turn into Human Smoke. Human Smoke didn't get his own versus screen picture until selectable in Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Though playing through the 8 Player Tournament Mode in the SNES and Genesis versions of Ultimate MK3 would also reveal his versus screen picture in similar appearance to Scorpion if Robo Smoke transform into Human Smoke at anytime during the tournament and won through one of the ranking before the semi-final match.
- When Human Smoke was created for UMK3, he was simply a gray clone of Scorpion and Ermac with some of their combos. In the Genesis version of Ultimate MK3, he's more similar to Scorpion than Ermac as he got all of Scorpion's combos instead.
- Human Smoke's color scheme in UMK3 was grey, but in Mortal Kombat Trilogy, it was more similar to white.
- Human Smoke was the first hidden character to be playable via a code without using UKK.
- In the Sega Genesis version of Ultimate MK3, players are not required to hold away the d-pad when holding the buttons necessary to play as Human Smoke, just the four buttons (HP+HK+LP+LK) alone.
- In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, playing as Human Smoke forces the background to Scislac Busorez and will remain so in all succeeding matches (except bosses) until the player loses and chooses someone else. This was fix in the SNES and Sega Genesis versions as that stage (known as The Lost World) had became a regular stage in the Kombat Zone cycle.
- In UMK3, he shared his Uppercut From Hell Fatality with Ermac, as well as Scorpion's Friendship. In Mortal Kombat Trilogy, he was given his own set of Finishers.
- Interestingly, in the Nintendo 64 version of the game, Smoke would use Scorpion's victory pose while performing his Inviso-Possession Fatality.
- Also, the Fatality is slower, and it includes more sound effects, which the CD versions lack of.
- Interestingly, in the Nintendo 64 version of the game, Smoke would use Scorpion's victory pose while performing his Inviso-Possession Fatality.
- Although Human Smoke could be unlock to appear at the character select screen in the N64 version of MK Trilogy, the code to play as him via Robo Smoke would still work as in Ultimate MK3. The likely reason for this was that another ninja character named Chameleon was suppose to be reserve for that hidden dragon box and be unlock via UKK (Ultimate Kombat Kode) alongside Khameleon, a female ninja character of the same feature though he was probably replaced by Human Smoke to prevent confusion between the two characters. Because of this there are three ways to unlock or play as Human Smoke in the game, the first via the Robot Smoke transformation code, the second through UKK, and the third via cheat menu. Chameleon, the male ninja character could still be play via a cheat device though his character wasn't established like the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC versions.
