King Gorbak is the father of Prince Goro and also the husband of Queen Mai, Goro's mother, and he is the ruler of Kuatan, the kingdom and home of his people known as the Shokans.

He has appeared in the official Mortal Kombat II comic book as well as the animated movie Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins and the non-canon Malibu Comics series.^[1] He was angered at the defeat of his son Goro and thus sent Kintaro to aid Shao Kahn in destroying the remaining warriors from Earthrealm.

In the movie Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins, it it shown he also has an older son named Duroc, who Goro slays in order to become the crown prince of the Shokan.
