The Kriss

The Kris or Keris (misspelled as Kriss in the games) is a type of Southeast Asian dagger, often featuring a wavy blade. They range in size from the length of a small knife to that of a short sword. They were said to be magically infused during their forging, which was believed to grant some Kris supernatural powers. Communities such as the Javanese, Malays, and Balinese traditionally wore the weapon on a daily basis either as a status symbol or for self-defense purposes. It was the weapon of last resort for warriors who lost their primary weapon in battle.

This weapon is used by Ashrah in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Unchained, Armageddon and Mortal Kombat 1.

Ashrah believes that the Kris is blessed and by slaying demons, Ashrah would become more humane and would be able to leave the Netherrealm. Although, Nitara and her vampire race consider this to be a curse, where it corrupts the wielder into thinking they were using it for a greater purpose.

It has been revealed that the blade Ashrah wields is a sinister creation known to the vampires as Datusha. It had slain many vampires in the past.

In Armageddon, Kreate a Fighters can select Kriss as a weapon if the Swords weapon type is selected.

In Wonder Woman's ending in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, she's seen wielding a Kris, possibly Ashrah's.

In Deception's Konquest mode, Shujinko can find Ashrah in Edenia and she will tell him she has lost her Kris and asks Shujinko to find it. The sword is located in the Netherrealm.

The Kris bears a resemblance to the Dragon Sword used by Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold, but smaller.

It is suggested by Ashrah that the sword was forged by Kafallah Warlocks in the distant past.
