Chapter 1: Johnny Cage[]

Johnny Cage is the first playable fighter in the Story Mode. Despite his behavior, Johnny should not be underestimated. However, his career as a movie star has the other fighters taking him less seriously than they already were from first sight. Due to having a large amount of fighting experience, Johnny Cage is a powerful fighter, and comes with advantages, yet also disadvantages. His advantages are, perhaps, his Shadow Kick, Forceball and the Flipkick. Sadly, his biggest disadvantage can be noticed on his X-Ray Attack - Ball Buster, since it is a counter attack move, it is not too hard to avoid. Also the Nut Breaker can be hard to connect, as it has a very small range. Use a lot of different special moves and you will defeat him.

Fight 1[]

Johnny Cage vs. Reptile

Arena: Courtyard (Night)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Your first fight is very simple. You can pretty much do anything you want and you'll defeat him, as long as you stay aggressive. A good strategy is to use his pop-up kick, which can be ended with a Nut Punch or Up Kick. Another strategy is to do a wheel kick that bounces Reptile up enough for Johnny to do his Shadow Kick. Reptile acts like a punching bag and doesn't block too much in this fight, so you can use this fight to get more comfortable with the game controls, and Johnny's moves if you aren't already set.

Fight 2[]

Johnny Cage vs. Baraka

Arena: Courtyard (Night)
Reward: 500 Koins

Baraka fights almost exactly the same as Reptile - the similarity being that he rarely attacks. The same tactics you used against Reptile will definitely be enough to bring down Baraka. The only thing you need to watch out for is his Spark projectile, as it can interrupt almost all of your moves. Other than that, feel free to practice Johnny's moves and combos - you will need them in the next two fights.

Fight 3[]

Johnny Cage vs. Sonya Blade

Arena: Pit (Night)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Sonya's main threat are her legs. You must be careful when fighting her because you both heavily rely on kicks in the battlefield. She normally uses jump-in combos, but usually stays grounded otherwise. Keep your distance (longer than jump distance away from her) and use a Forceball to get her from a distance or a Shadow Kick to keep her grounded since she will rarely block or dodge it.

Fight 4[]

Johnny Cage vs. Kano

Arena: Pit (Night)
Final Reward: 4000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Kano is more aggressive than your former opponents. He doesn't throw many projectiles, instead, he relies mainly on combos and juggling, so stay low and at about jump range. You can either use uppercuts, if he gets close to you, or you can also use your Shadow Kicks to send him back. If you can trap Kano in the corner that's good, just keep punching him until the fight is over, since, after being cornered, he isn't much of a threat. Another strategy is just to run away and shoot force balls (but beware of his Ball move). If he does his Ball move, try blocking the attack and try to perform a pop-up juggle attack, also a good strategy is to do his pop-up juggle attack and connect it with a Flipkick. Due to Kano being more aggressive, it's a bigger chance that he will attack you when you perform Johnny Cage's X-Ray move.

Chapter 2: Sonya Blade[]

In general: Sonya Blade should not be underestimated. Her legs pack a punch and give her a large advantage in the fights. Her move Kiss will stun the opponent for a small while, so use this move to land a powerful attack. Her X-Ray - SF Beat Down is hard to block, as it contains many kicks, and the enemy commonly drops their guard, allowing you to land a huge amount of damage. She also has the Divekick, an attack that can be useful if you are new to the game.

Fight 1[]

Sonya Blade vs. Sub-Zero (Bi-Han)

Arena: Goro's Lair
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Sub-Zero can freeze you solid, giving him a free hit on you. The best way of fighting him would be in the air. Try and use her Down Kick or her Spring Kick at maximum efficiency. Although they don't do much damage, if you pour on the pressure you'll get the win. Just watch out for his Iceball, Ice Clone, and Ice Puddle moves.

Fight 2[]

Sonya Blade vs. Raiden

Arena: Goro's Lair
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: This is your first match against someone who can Teleport. Seeing as most of his moves can be done in the air, as well as having quite a devastating pop-up combo, you must be more careful. Try and force him into a brawl as most of his combos revolve around his special moves and winning will be much easier.

Fight 3[]

Sonya Blade vs. Kitana and Jade

Arena: Shang Tsung's Gardens (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: It might be very annoying, this being your first time to fight 1-on-2, but there are ways to stop them.

To defeat Kitana: Kitana prefers using her fans and her high kicks. Stay down and use many sweeps. Sonya's special moves work very well on her, but they have to be done fast. Long range is quite useful since most of her (special) attacks are mid-ranged. Stay on the ground as long as you can, Kitana's Square Wave, or her Fan Throw which she uses very often, can bust you out of the air, even if you stay on the ground. Sonya's Arc Kick is very useful as well.

To defeat Jade: Jade is a really fast opponent. The secret is using Sonya's fighting style attacks (preferably in the air) and the limb-based special attacks. It is also wise to play very defensively as the fight can end very quickly in the opponent's favor if you don't. Jade has a defense special: Dodging Shadow. She turns green and every single projectile will pass through her. That means that the Kiss and the Energy Rings do not work in that case. Keep that in mind and for both of them, Sonya's Arc Kick is an appropriate move.

Fight 4[]

Sonya Blade vs. Kano

Arena: Shang Tsung's Gardens (Day)
Final Reward: 4000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Unlike Johnny Cage, Sonya has no taunts for Kano's aggressive style. Try and push him back with Ring Blasts, and when he gets too close, blow him a Kiss. Try to keep him up close to prevent him from doing his Ball. The difficulty level will rise from here on in, but along with it, will.

Chapter 3: Scorpion[]

In General: Scorpion isn't as good of a choice for juggling as some other characters are, but that doesn't mean he can't deal a good amount of damage. Most of Scorpion's combos can knock your opponent back, leaving you some breathing room to plan your next attack. He also has Demon Fire, along with Hell Fire, which are unblockable special moves, meaning that they will do damage to your opponent most of the time, so don't worry about using it every once in a while. His most useful asset is his Spear, which can bring his opponent to him, as well as leave them dazed and vulnerable for a short period of time; more than enough to dish out a good combo, or, should you have it, land his X-Ray move Scorpion Sting without fear of them blocking. Other moves like his Teleport and Takedown can be integrated into your combo as well to deal even more damage. A good combination of Spear + Combo + Special Move can usually be enough to defeat your opponent, or you can use a combination of Spear + Punch (In Air while not moving in any direction) + Hellblade + Throw (in Air) (requires good timing). Just don't forget to block.

Fight 1[]

Scorpion vs. Kung Lao

Arena: Courtyard (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: The Spear isn't very useful here so don't use it too often. Kung Lao is very aggressive and he'll just keep on coming towards you, so you must rely on uppercuts in this fight. Stay out of his range and when you see the opportunity to perform an uppercut, do it. That doesn't mean combos don't bear fruit, though. Keep him away with sword combos, or occasionally try a teleport and a sweep. The main goal is not to be defensive, but to fight fire with fire.

Fight 2[]

Scorpion vs. Nightwolf

Arena: Courtyard (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Nightwolf relies mostly on specials. He is much less aggressive than some previous opponents. He usually hangs back and calls down Lighting or shoots you with his Spirit Arrow. So this time use the Spear to get him close to you and just keep attacking him. Keep close to him and the fight should be over in no time.

Fight 3[]

Scorpion vs. Sektor and Cyrax

Arena: Shang Tsung's Throne Room
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: This fight can be tricky, mostly due to Sektor's Teleport Uppercut and Rocket Missiles and Cyrax's Net. Cyrax and Sektor, (like Shang Tsung and Quan Chi) are a deadly combination, as both of them use explosives and cybernetic weapons to their advantage. Because they are so deadly at ranged combat, you want to fight them in close range. Your Spear and Teleport are very important here if you want to succeed this fight.

Fight 4[]

Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero (Bi-Han)

Arena: Netherrealm
Final Reward: 4000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Sub-Zero can freeze you, so be cautious. Unlike Scorpion, Sub-Zero can use his Slide move against you, but it can easily be dodged by either jumping over him, or just block low. The Spear is also useful here, but don't use it all the time, or he will quickly counter it with Iceball, freezing you before you can drag him to you with a lethal combo. The Teleport move is extremely useful to counter his Iceball, also allowing you to quickly use your Spear to drag him closer to you and cause a lot of damage to him. Use Hell Fire to keep off guard or jumping where you have the advantage but as well as the Spear, it shouldn't be used all the time.

Chapter 4: Cyrax (Human)[]

In General: Cyrax has the advantage of using weapons such as the Bombs and the Net in the fight. Don't be afraid to use it on your opponent to send them into a juggle combo, and deal a large amount of damage. Just remember to time the moves correctly, or else it won't work. His X-Ray Attack Cyberdriver has a short distance, but can easily be combo'd off any attack or can be used as an effective anti-air attack. You can use the Net to immobilize them, so the X-Ray attack wouldn't be too hard to perform.

Fight 1[]

Cyrax vs. Sheeva

Arena: Pit (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Sheeva can be a problem since her Jump Stomp attack is unblockable, and hard to dodge. Try to use a Anti-Air Throw against her when she jumps with a good timing. Make sure to be on your guard at all times as well, especially for her X-ray attack - Slam Dance, since it is unblockable unless you are in the air.

Fight 2[]

Cyrax vs. Baraka

Arena: Pit (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies: Baraka isn't much of a threat, but he has developed a tendency to attack more than when he fought Johnny Cage. If you see him use his projectile (or any other move that leaves him open for an attack), try and teleport behind him and either throw him or uppercut him. Another good way to take care of him quickly is to use your Bomb and Buzzsaw often. If they hit, they will fill up your Super Meter more than most of your other special moves. Once your Super Meter is full, do your best to trap him in a Net and land an X-Ray Move - Cyberdriver on him.

Fight 3[]

Cyrax vs. Johnny Cage

Arena: Courtyard (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Your first fight against Johnny Cage could be a little troublesome since he likes to rely heavily on his special moves. His Shadow Kick and Flipkick can be difficult to dodge, and they pack a punch whenever he enhances them. Cyrax's Net could be useful in preventing Cage from using those moves, then, while he's trapped, use a pop-up combo along with a few special moves of your own.

Fight 4[]

Cyrax vs. Sektor (Human)

Arena: Shang Tsung's Gardens (Day)
Final Reward: 4000 Koins

In general: Sektor can be annoying due to his Teleport Uppercut, as it is a surprise attack, it will be quick and unexpected. The easiest way to avoid the attack would then be to block it, giving a chance that he will be open for a juggle combo.

Chapter 5: Liu Kang[]

In General: Liu Kang is a character that should be played offensively to win. He is one of the fastest characters in the game, and therefore he lacks in strength, especially when fighting from a distance. However, he is extremely useful in the air mainly because most of his special moves can be performed and optimal in the air. His fireballs should be mixed high, low and air to confuse the opponent, and the Flying Kick should be used as an anti-air surprise attack or a way to quickly close the gap with the opponent so it's a very useful move. The Bicycle Kick should be used mostly in combos, despite being his most powerful move. His X-Ray Move can be combined from most of his chain attacks.

Fight 1[]

Liu Kang vs. Ermac

Arena: Shang Tsung's Throne Room
Reward: 500 Koins.

Strategies and Tips: Ermac mainly relies on his combos and projectiles, if you block frequently and get close enough, you'll be able to deal some good damage using combos combined with his Bicycle Kick. Mainly try and use his pop-up combos and end them with either uppercuts or Dragon Kicks.

Fight 2[]

Liu Kang vs. Kitana

Arena: Shang Tsung's Gardens (Day)
Reward: 500 Koins.

Strategies and Tips: Kitana relies heavily on her projectiles, if you manage to dodge or block them, get close enough to her and do some combos, then use the Bicycle Kick. Repeat this process, and she'll be beaten quickly. But be wary of her Fan Lift move.

Fight 3[]

Liu Kang vs. Scorpion and Quan Chi

Arena: Courtyard (Night)
Reward: 500 Koins.

Strategies and Tips: These two rely a lot on their teleporting moves making the match harder but not impossible, block each teleport they make and uppercut them afterward, recommended is to defeat Scorpion first. Do not underestimate the power of the grab either. Every X-Ray you get, use!

Fight 4[]

Liu Kang vs. Goro

Arena: Goro's Lair
Reward: 500 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Goro does a huge amount of damage when he's close enough, be sure to keep him away at all times. Continuously using your projectile moves is recommended, but be aware of his super armor. Just remember to dodge his Leaping Stomp, as well as the Tremor Pound. Throws can't be performed on him, you'll just fall away while Goro taunts and making you vulnerable to catch a combo. Use the Flying Kick repeatedly until he blocks it (sometimes after three kicks), it's fast and deals a bit of damage. Unlike Kintaro, Goro doesn't have many projectiles. Feel free to walk up to him because he mainly relies on his fists. Maximize the use of Bicycle Kick and Parry.

Strategy 2: When Goro performs his Taunt Move, use the Bicycle Kick. Do not do this too close to him, always stay away and use Fireballs (low or high) and the Flying Kick. Another strategy is to use jump moves. He doesn't block too much, so jump and hit him. He'll probably get a few hits in but it will be fairly easy.

Fight 5[]

Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung

Arena: Shang Tsung's Throne Room
Final Reward: 4000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Shang Tsung will use his Soul Steal move most of the match, block them, if you can, and perform a chain of combos and projectiles to have him beaten quickly. Tsung will morph into Liu Kang if he succeeds in performing the Soul Steal move on you, and he will do devastating combos as him. Remember to watch out for his grapple move, as he will regenerate health if he manages to use it on you. If you keep these in mind, you should fare pretty well.

Chapter 6: Jax[]

In General: Jax Briggs is a powerhouse, compensating his slow foot speed with raw brute strength. His many moves, such as Dash Punch, the Ground Pound, Gotcha!, and his ability to do an air throw, make him a fearful fighter, mostly due to his brutal strength in his attacks, where most of them are just punches. His X-Ray - Briggs Bash is the most powerful one of the other selectable characters, dealing 41% damage to the enemy. It also has the advantage of being an unblockable grab move, at the cost of short distance. His main weakness is the fact that most of his attacks require to be up close and personal, and the ground pound and sonic waves do little damage by themselves.

Fight 1[]

Jax vs. Baraka

Arena: Shao Kahn's Throne Room
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Baraka is tougher than before. His Tarkatan blades can be a challenge as they attack with lethal speed. Jax has the Ground Pound move, which you can use to repeatedly attack Baraka and deliver a large amount of damage. Remember to use the attack with care. If it doesn't work, you can always uppercut Baraka, or attack him with Energy Wave. The Dash Punch is also a useful move, since it's fast and deals an attractive amount of damage. The Ground Pound on short Range is the most useful distance, Baraka flies up to the air making you able to do air attacks, preferably Air Gotcha and Backbreaker (his version of the Air throw). Be warned, as he will not be afraid to use his X-Ray.

Fight 2[]

Jax vs. Johnny Cage

Arena: Armory
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Not as challenging as Baraka, the pace will be slowed down. But don't underestimate him, he is very quick with his moves, especially his Shadow Kick. Also be careful of his Nut Punch. Use Gotcha! and Ground Pound constantly. Follow this and you should win easily and quickly.

Fight 3[]

Jax vs. Jade

Arena: Armory
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategies and Tips: This fight is "easy", due to the fact that the strategy to fight Johnny Cage can be applied here as well. Use block frequently, since Jade will do more advanced combos, feel free to do advanced super moves and with a chance an X-Ray Move to end the battle more quickly.

Fight 4[]

Jax vs. Sheeva

Arena: Dead Pool
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategy and tips: Same strategy as when you fought Sheeva before. When she does her jump, either try and do an Air Grab or a Dash Punch to get out of the way and deal some damage at the same time. The Ground Pound can be useful in this fight as well.

Chapter 7: Smoke[]

In general: Smoke is probably one of the most savage characters to fight against, therefore, he has a lot of advantages, like his Teleport move, and his ability to counter projectiles and attacks with Shake or Vibration. Smoke is extremely lethal, as he is quick. His Teleport move can be useful due to its speed and difficulty to block. When attacked by projectiles or anything else, perform Shake or Vibration, and he will counter with an unblockable attack. His X-Ray Move - Burn Out can be charged, but is severely punished when blocked and can't be combo'd off any attack.

Fight 1[]

Smoke vs. Kitana

Arena: Wasteland
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategies and Tips: As Kitana relies mostly on her projectiles and dashing attacks, Shake is a useful move on her, together with Teleport. Also, try to execute Smoke's pop up moves, as Kitana also mainly relies on juggles.

Fight 2[]

Smoke vs. Kano

Arena: Living Forest
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: This should be quite an easy match. Use Smoke's Teleport to the maximum. If he tosses his knives, use the Shake.

Fight 3[]

Smoke vs. Reptile and Shang Tsung in the form of Sub-Zero (Bi-Han)

Arena: Living Forest
Reward: 750 Koins

Tips and Strategies: This is a fairly hard match, depending on your experience with Smoke. Shang Tsung/Sub-Zero will attack you with his Ice Freeze very often, so dodge, block, or perform his Teleport before he freezes you. The Ice Ball can also be countered by using Shake. Shang Tsung/Sub-Zero also blocks and dodges your attacks often. Reptile constantly throws punches and sweeps, and often the Force Ball and Acid Spit if in long range distance. Use Shake if he does. Also, try to stay in long range if you fight Reptile, he'll have no other choice than use the Force Ball or the Acid Spit, allowing you to counter and deal some damage. Another strategy against Reptile is up close seeing as he relies heavily on his ranged combos. He isn't as much of a challenge as Shang Tsung/Sub-Zero is. They both sometimes tag in and out with an X-Ray Attack which causes 53% damage, so be careful.

Fight 4[]

Smoke vs. Sektor

Arena: Living Forest
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Sektor mainly uses his Teleport Uppercut. Block frequently and uppercut him when he teleports. When he attacks with a rocket, feel free to use Shake or Teleport also counter him with a juggle attack.

Chapter 8: Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang)[]

In General: Like Scorpion, he is a good all-round character, with Scorpion being slightly more inclined on the offensive while Sub-Zero goes mainly on the defensive. Sub-Zero's overall specialty is to immobilize his opponent, leaving them open to attack. His Ice Ball, Ice Clone, and Ground Ice all immobilize your opponent, so you should focus on using those moves as much as possible. Even some of his combos freeze the opponent, so his powers do play a big role in executing effective combos. Just be careful not to try and freeze your opponent in the same combo, or else you'll defrost them. Another downside is that Ground Ice takes slightly longer to execute than Ice Ball, meaning your enemy can interrupt you with a quick combo. Effective use of Sub-Zero's freezing attacks and combos can make him a powerhouse. His X-Ray Move- Deep Freeze has the advantage of being able to be charged up similar to Smoke's X-Ray which can be used in a good number of combos and slightly charging helps out in catching falling opponents, but has the downside of being easily blocked if anticipated

Fight 1[]

Sub-Zero vs. Cyrax

Arena: Soul Chamber
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Since Cyrax is mostly a long distance fighter, get in close and use Slide to end all combos. A relatively easy fight.

Fight 2[]

Sub-Zero vs. Ermac

Arena: Soul Chamber
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Ermac relies heavily on long distance and staying away from you. Sub Zero's Slide will duck projectiles. Use Ice Clone and Ice Ball constantly, then go in for the kill. Also, use Sub Zero's charged Back Punch, Ermac will try and block it, but when fully charged, it's unblockable. Also, if Ermac blocks the attack, he will be frozen. Another good strategy is to use the Ice Clone. Whether he is in short or long range of your attacks, There is a 75% chance that Ermac will perform the Force Port. Duck+Block quickly, if you time correctly, he will juggle into the air allowing for a combo. Otherwise, he will likely try the Mystic Bomb after the Ice Clone. When he's in air, jump over towards him. In short range, kick him in the air and freeze him for a combo. In long range, do an additional combo when he pounds the ground.

Fight 3[]

Sub-Zero vs. Reptile

Arena: Shao Kahn's Coliseum
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategies & Tips: Reptile's strategy consists of him moving as far away from you as possible and using long range special moves such as his Acid Spit. To counter this, it is recommended you try and dash as closely as you can toward him and use combo moves. If unsuccessful, Sub-Zero's Ice Slide is useful in both getting closer to him as well as damaging him. DO NOT use Sub-Zero's Ice Ball excessively, he will only counter it with one of his own long range special moves, causing more damage to you than to him.

Fight 4[]

Sub-Zero vs. Scorpion

Arena: Shao Kahn's Coliseum
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Since Scorpion will use teleport constantly, use your Ice Clone to counter, and end with a combo. Also, watch out for Scorpion's Spear and Sweep Kick. In general, just watch out for him since he moves all over the arena.

Chapter 9: Kitana[]

In General: Kitana's main advantage is her strong projectiles, thanks to her Fans, due to the fact they can be used as either a combo attack, a juggle beginner or ender, or as an anti-air attack. Kitana has a lot of versatility when it comes to inflicting damage and punishing opponents, especially opponents that rely heavily on Teleport moves or close up fighting. Her X-Ray Move Fan-tastic is a projectile move that can easily be blocked, but has the advantage of hitting at long range and can be combo'd off any chain or attack.

Fight 1[]

Kitana vs. Smoke and Johnny Cage

Arena: Wasteland
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Keep them far as possible with your Fans. Be also warned of Johnny Cage's Kickflip, it could end some of your combos.

Fight 2[]

Kitana vs. Jade

Arena: Living Forest
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: This time try and keep the fight close, as Jade's Dodging Shadows give her the advantage against projectiles.

Fight 3[]

Kitana vs. Mileena

Arena: Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Mileena will use Teleport and Ball Roll constantly. Block these attacks and uppercut her or perform a pop-up combo on the recoil.

Fight 4[]

Kitana vs. Shang Tsung

Arena: Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Shang Tsung is tricky. Try and keep the fight close, but back away after he starts using some more brutal combos. You have to switch constantly between fighting long range and short range.

Chapter 10: Jade[]

In General: Jade has the advantage of both her Staff and Razorang attacks giving her the advantage of both close and long range options. However, she does not excel in either of those options, making her a very mid-level character. Jade's X-Ray Move - Staff Buster, has the advantage of traveling almost fullscreen, however, it can easily be blocked.

Fight 1[]

Jade vs. Baraka

Arena: Armory
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Use Jade's Pole Slam against Baraka like you did with Jax, it can be somewhat annoying due to his powerful special moves. Stay in range and use the Razorang to damage him further and from a distance. Baraka isn't much of an aero-type, so the low Razorang can also be used. Shouldn't be too much of a challenge.

Fight 2[]

Jade vs. Sheeva

Arena: Evil Tower
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: The biggest problem against Sheeva, is her Jump Stomp move. Since Jade has no close anti-air moves, it makes fighting Sheeva incredibly hard, unless focusing on close range. Press Up+Circle (or B) to do a double up kick against Sheeva when she does her jump. Jade's Razorang is also useful in this fight.

Fight 3[]

Jade vs. Mileena

Arena: Wasteland
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Mileena will still use Teleport and Ball Roll constantly, so block these attacks and uppercut her or perform a pop-up combo on the recoil, like you did with Kitana in Chapter 9.'

Fight 4[]

Jade vs. Smoke

Arena: Wasteland
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Try to keep Smoke at a range. When he teleports, block and uppercut on the recoil.

Chapter 11: Kung Lao[]

In General: Kung Lao has the advantage of his hat, teleport attacks, and the Dive Kick. Use them to your advantage in the fight. Kung Lao's grapple move for his Teleport is unblockable, even on Kintaro. Kung Lao's X-Ray move - Fist of Shaolin can be combo'd off any attack or chain and can be used as an effective anti-air attack. However, the teleport, despite its numerous follow-up attacks, can be easily punished, usually by uppercuts, so it is best used to get you out of tight spots, especially corner traps.

Fight 1[]

Kung Lao vs. Noob Saibot

Arena: Evil Tower
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Noob Saibot's moves can be a real pain, from his Teleport Slam to Ghost Ball. Use Kung Lao's Teleport Kick against Noob constantly. When he Teleports, try and do a spin. This can be linked into his X-Ray Move, which can then be linked into a hat slice.

Fight 2[]

Kung Lao vs. Goro

Arena: Evil Monastery
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Since Kung Lao is more of a speed warrior rather than a power fighter, use your hat to keep Goro at a range. When he shoots a skull, Teleport and kick. If you do it right, Goro shouldn't be too hard to beat.

Fight 3[]

Kung Lao vs. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi

Arena: Shao Kahn's Coliseum
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Shang Tsung and Quan Chi are a deadly pair together so this fight will be really hard. Quan Chi's Trance, Mesmerize, Ground Burst and Sky Drop can be a real issue to you, as well as many of Shang Tsung's moves; his grapple move actually heals him if he successfully manages to grab you. His Soul Steal move can also be a pain to take care of, as he will morph into you, together with receiving an attack boost, unless you block it. One way of defeating them would be to either use the teleportation attacks against them, or to use the Dive Kick. Use the Spin against Quan Chi because he likes to use teleports a lot. You can also always uppercut them, but use it with caution. Use plenty of teleports and hat throw moves.

Fight 4[]

Kung Lao vs. Kintaro

Arena: Shao Kahn's Coliseum
Reward: 750 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Use the same strategy you used against Goro. Another useful tip for experienced players, when Kintaro uses his Stomp move, jump back at just the right time to get a free hit as he comes down (an uppercut is recommended). Kintaro will do this excessively if staying somewhat away from him, just be wary of his Fireballs, as they will do the most harm. His moves are very predictable as he has slow specials, which can work to your advantage.

Fight 5 (as Liu Kang)[]

Liu Kang vs. Shao Kahn

Arena; Shao Kahn's Coliseum
Final Reward: 6000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: To defeat Shao Kahn as Liu Kang, try using his Low Fireball attack from a distance. Shao Kahn has a tendency to Taunt at a distance, as well as throwing his Spear and Hammer and doing the Shoulder Charge. When Kahn is too close, feel free to use the Flying Dragon Kick, and dash back. Liu Kang has a counter move that will turn the tables on Shao Kahn when he throws a spear or hammer. Then deliver a Flying Dragon Kick. Liu Kang's Low Fireball will have him duck underneath the spear, and if it lands completely, it will wear down Kahn, as well as filling your Super Meter. Keep your distance to avoid Kahn's Shoulder Charge as well. It will take some practice, but using the Low Fireball correctly can help you defeat Shao Kahn. Try and use his pop up as many times as possible in a combo and finish with an uppercut. This will only do 15% damage, but will prove invaluable.

Strategies and Tips 2: Shao Kahn's moves are very powerful. His X-Ray Move - It's Official, is one of the most powerful, and even one of the hardest to dodge if too close. His move does a huge amount of damage, up to 52%, together with having a decent range, you cannot avoid the attack by jumping, so dash backwards as quick as possible to avoid the move. Also, jump often. With the exception of his X-Ray Move and the Jumping Shoulder Charge, all of Kahn's attacks can be avoided by jumping.

Strategies and Tips 3: When Shao Kahn is throwing his hammer, use Liu Kang's Low Fireball to evade the hammer. And never get close to him!

Chapter 12: Kurtis Stryker[]

In general: Stryker has the advantage of using grenades and his trusty pistol in the fight, as both of them can be hard to dodge, especially the pistol. With the help of the Pistol, you can send your opponent into a juggle combo, if you manage to send them into the air. Stryker's X-Ray Move - Busted, has a short range and is easily blocked, however, it does massive damage if it connects. Use it after a 2-hit combo to maximize your chances of connecting it.

Fight 1[]

Stryker vs. Reptile

Arena: Rooftop (Day)
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategies & Tips: Like with Sub-Zero, Reptile's strategy won't change much, as he will continue his long range special move onslaught. This time, however, you have the advantage of Stryker's Pistol, which can easily counter Reptile's strategy by damaging him from far away, as well as blocking his attack. Stryker's Pistol is key to winning this battle, use it excessively with his Grenade.

Fight 2[]

Stryker vs. Mileena

Arena: Street
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Use your Roll and Pistol with every pop-up. Whenever Mileena does her Teleport or Ball Roll, use a pop up combo, shoot her, then do a Roll. This is a fairly good 20-30% combo, but the timing is tricky.

Fight 3[]

Stryker vs. Kintaro

Arena: Street
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Watch out for Kintaro's Fireball and Teleport Stomp. If you are unlucky, Kintaro might juggle you in the air with three Ground Fireballs. If he does a Teleport Stomp, ALWAYS remember to quickly dodge it with a Roll or simply jump away from the exact point where you stood, then he will be vulnerable to attacks since he taunts after hitting the ground and misses. If you have your Super Meter full, and Kintaro uses his Teleport Stomp, you can activate your X-Ray move - Busted to counter the stomp.

Fight 4[]

Stryker vs. Ermac

Arena: Subway
Final Reward: 10000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Stryker may have more tools than Ermac, but don't let that make you underestimate him. Keep him at long distance so he can't hit you with his Force Lift move. When he Teleports, block it then counter with an uppercut.

Chapter 13: Kabal[]

In general: Kabal has the advantage of super speed, which can be extremely useful in juggling combos even in long range. Don't be afraid to use them in the fight! But his super speed comes with a disadvantage of being slowly performed, so it can be neither hard nor easy to dodge. Use it at moments when the enemy is distracted. Kabal also has the advantage of both a high and low hitting projectile attack in the form of the Gas Blast and Buzzsaw respectively, meaning that you can switch between both in order to tackle your opponent. His X-ray Move - Kabal's Deep, is punished severely when blocked, but can be combo'd off any chain attack. Use it at times when the opponent is open for a counter attack, particularly after a successful Nomad Dash.

Fight 1[]

Kabal vs. Kano

Arena: Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Keep Kano guessing. Shoot your Gas Blast at him, then follow up with Nomad Dash. A good combo is to do the pop-up combo, use the Nomad Dash then do the pop-up combo again. This combo can also be tied into his X-Ray Move. Beware of Kano's X-Ray Move, not only is it unblockable, it causes 41% damage, so beware when he has his super meter filled up, as he will not be afraid to use it.

Fight 2[]

Kabal vs. Mileena and Noob Saibot

Arena: Shao Kahn's Throne Room
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Both Mileena and Noob Saibot use their Enhanced Teleport moves extensively, particularly when they tag out, so it can be very hard to anticipate. If you switch out between Gas Blast and Buzzsaw, you can get their health down quickly, and don't be afraid to use Nomad Dash as well. Going in close is dangerous but don't be afraid to try it. Throws work very well (Thus Tornado Slam either), as they both block frequently while pressing main buttons enables you to block throws.

Fight 3[]

Kabal vs. Cyber Sub-Zero

Arena: Street
Reward: 1000 Koins, Cyber Sub-Zero as a playable character

Strategies and Tips: For the most part, Cyber Sub-Zero isn't very difficult. However, his ability to freeze and Teleport gives him the edge. Using quick combos and your projectiles, you should be able to beat him easily. He is also known to use Dive Kick a lot, so be cautious when in mid-air combat or if you're on the ground. Block it, then uppercut.

Fight 4[]

Kabal vs. Sheeva

Arena: Street
Final Reward: 10000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Sheeva's Teleport Stomp is easier to dodge this time around thanks to the presence of the Nomad Dash, however, you should still always be on your guard when facing her. Use your projectiles constantly to keep her from using her Teleport Stomp.

Chapter 14: Cyber Sub-Zero[]

In general: Cyber Sub-Zero is slightly slower than his human form, however, he is also slightly stronger. He takes attributes from both his original form and Cyrax, having a Teleport move and access to Ice Bombs, that will damage and freeze the opponent. While he cannot make ice clones, he has the ability to flash-freeze himself temporarily, effectively countering any high attack. His X-Ray Move - Cool Down, has to be activated in the air and lands at such an angle that it could accidently miss, but it makes up for it by traveling fullscreen and does a very high amount of damage to your opponent. Use it after you freeze your opponent with an Ice Ball to maximize your chances of hitting your opponent. Thanks to his Dive Kick, he can even also do hit-and-run tactics, as the kick recoils him out of range from an uppercut if blocked.

Fight 1[]

Cyber Sub-Zero vs. Sektor

Arena: Subway
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Fight Sektor at a long distance so that he Teleports; when he does, block and uppercut as he is less dangerous than he was early in the game.

Fight 2[]

Cyber Sub-Zero vs. Kintaro and Goro

Arena: Bell Tower
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Cyber Sub-Zero has a Teleport move and an Ice Ball that will work perfectly when facing the tag team of Kintaro and Goro. Timing is always key, as well as maintaining your distance. Remember that Kintaro and Goro will Taunt occasionally, which leaves an opening to strike. Beware of certain moves, like the Tremor Pound and Leaping Stomp. When Goro or Kintaro jump up and disappear, jump away from your spot to avoid being hit. Kintaro and Goro also have projectiles, which are Fireballs they will randomly shoot. Jump over them if possible. Ducking will not work. Kintaro has a tendency to use multiple Ground Fireballs to juggle you if you get too close to him. Try to use Sub-Zero's freezing abilities and his Teleport to gain the advantage. Don't be afraid to use the Divekick since they rarely block it.

Strategy 2: Cyber Sub-Zero's Freezing Pain (Foward+Front Punch, Back Kick), when it fully lands, does 23% damage and knocks them away, thus setting up a Slide (Away, Toward, Back Kick) for extra damage. If you sustain enough damage, execute the X-Ray Attack - Cool Down (While in the Air and facing the enemy in close proximity). Both Kintaro and Goro also have a tendency: after one of them dies (or is about to die), they switch and utilize their X-Ray Move, which causes between 50% and 53% damage, so be prepared.

Strategy 3: Cyber Sub-Zero's Ice Ball move will temporarily freeze the opponent; once you freeze them, you can jump and press Circle/B to knock them back, repeating this will help you beat them quickly since they rarely block the move.

Strategy 4: Cyber Sub-Zero has a combo move allowing him to punch and then split kick his opponent. This delivers great damage, either on bosses like Goro and Kintaro. On the PS3, it's performed by pressing forward and square at the same time repeated with circle. Also useful is Cyber Sub-Zero's Divekick, since Goro and Kintaro are unable to jump (excluding when they use Tremor Pound or Leaping Stomp). Use his Ice Ball to freeze them and make sure the combo delivers the damage it is supposed to, since after Cyber Sub-Zero makes the combo, he lays on his back and has to jump to his feet, making him vulnerable if they blocked it completely.

Strategy 5: When Goro and Kintaro perform a Taunt move, teleport and apply an uppercut.

Fight 3[]

Cyber Sub-Zero vs. Ermac

Arena: Bell Tower
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Keep the pressure on. Shoot continuous Ice Bombs and Ice Balls, then Teleport and use melee attacks. This constant pair should keep Ermac on the ropes.

Fight 4[]

Cyber Sub-Zero vs. Noob Saibot

Arena: Graveyard
Final Reward: 10000 Koins

Strategies and Tips: Noob Saibot is capable of long-range attacks, thanks to his Ghostball and his shadow clone. Also, most of the time, he will use his Teleport Grab. Remember to block, and avoid the Ghostball at all costs. If he uses his Teleport Grab, block and uppercut. Also, look out for his combos, as they are strong and fierce. Keep him under pressure and you will be fine.

Chapter 15: Nightwolf[]

In General: Nightwolf has the advantage of his Arrow Shot, Axe Swing, and Shoulder Charge attacks, giving him versatility across all ranges. He also has an effective defensive move in the form of his Reflect, which is useful, given the second and third combatants he faces both rely heavily on projectiles. The disadvantage is that Nightwolf is not very mobile (like Liu Kang or Johnny Cage). Nightwolf's X-Ray Move - Ancestor's Call has a very short distance, but can be combo'd off any chain attack.

Fight 1[]

Nightwolf vs. Quan Chi

Arena: The Graveyard
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: When Quan Chi tries to teleport out, duck and block. If done correctly, he will be open in the air, making him vulnerable for an uppercut. Keep doing this for the victory.

Fight 2[]

Nightwolf vs. Cyrax

Arena: The Cathedral
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Get in close against Cyrax. Use constant Chokes, Grabs, and Axe Swings to keep him on the ropes. When you have a full super meter, use your X-Ray Move. Uppercuts are very useful in close range. Watch out for Cyrax's Net.

Fight 3[]

Nightwolf vs. Sektor

Arena: Cathedral
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Keep Sektor at a range. Continually block his attacks at all times. Sektor has no unblockable attacks, and if he Teleports, you should either do an X-Ray or uppercut right after ducking and blocking.

Fight 4[]

Nightwolf vs. Sindel

Arena: Cathedral
Final Reward: 10000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Sindel is a difficult challenge. Try and stay away from her because she has nasty juggles. However, her ranged moveset is better than Nightwolf's, so constantly switch from retreating to attacking. Often use the Shoulder Charge in it's enhanced form in order to deal more damage and a good tactic to fast switch from retreating to attack.

Chapter 16: Raiden[]

Fight 1[]

Raiden vs. Scorpion

Arena: Netherrealm
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: Use the same tactics you have used against Scorpion in the past. Electric Fly is appropriate, but also be aware of his Teleport Punch, because it could connect it with a Spear.

Fight 2[]

Raiden vs. Jax, Stryker, and Kabal (Zombies)

Arena: Netherrealm
Reward: 1000 Koins

Note: If you lose during any part of this fight, you have to start from the beginning, regardless of which combatant you were on.

Strategy and Tips: Use Teleport, Grabs and Electric Fly if it seems appropriate, and often use the Kombo Kicks after you teleport behind the opponent. On the PS3, the combo kick is X, X, O. NEVER be afraid to expand your whole Super Meter in a match. After one opponent is defeated, the another combatant comes in, and the Super Meter starts a little behind the "E" for Enhanced, which always happens in the beginning of a normal battle.

Fight 3[]

Raiden vs. Kitana, Nightwolf, and Kung Lao (Zombies)

Arena: Netherrealm
Reward: 1000 Koins

Note: If you lose during any part of this fight, you have to start from the beginning, regardless of which combatant you were on.

Strategy and Tips: Use constant Teleports and Grabs, and use similar tactics against them as with the last three opponents but also be aware of Nightwolf's Shoulder Charge, it could be harsh.

Fight 4[]

Raiden vs. Liu Kang

Arena: Rooftop (Night)
Reward: 1000 Koins

Strategy and Tips: As fearsome as Liu Kang is, most of his specials have recoil. During this recoil either perform an uppercut or special move. A well-placed uppercut can be a useful counter against his Flying Kick or Bicycle Kick. Also, a good way to counter his Low Fireball is to jump at him with a jump attack. If you connect, try and perform Electric Fly. This will deal a worthy amount of damage, especially if the move is enhanced. Lastly, if he performs a projectile, he will normally take about 1.3 seconds to recover. Use this to teleport behind him and, if you can, perform an X-Ray Move - Shock Therapy.

Fight 5[]

Raiden vs. Shao Kahn

Arena: Rooftop (Night)
Final Reward: 10000 Koins, unlocks Quan Chi as a playable character

Strategies and Tips: When facing Shao Kahn, keep your distance to avoid Kahn's Shoulder Charge. It also helps when you're figuring out which projectile Kahn is likely to throw. Raiden has a Teleport, so use it when Kahn taunts and then connect with an uppercut. You can also perform Raiden's teleport move to get behind Shao Kahn during his charge attack. This should give you an advantage to perform a surprise attack. Remember to back away from Kahn after the uppercut to maintain your distance. Unlike Liu Kang, Raiden's projectiles do not allow you to duck under the spear, but his Electric Fly will allow you to fly under it. The Teleport can be a key factor in this final fight when used properly. You can also teleport every time he tries to attack you. Once he makes a move, quickly teleport then uppercut him, and wait for another attack. If you can't connect with an uppercut, another good strategy is to jump up and over his head and jump kick him from behind. If you miss, follow through with a side kick by pressing forward and kick at the same time. Reminder, ALWAYS be alert for Shao Kahn's X-Ray attack - It's Official, it causes 52% internal damage. Repeat these steps, and you'll have Shao Kahn beaten in no time.

Koin Rewards[]

500 Koins x 16 = 8000 Koins
750 Koins x 19 = 14250 Koins
1000 Koins x 16 = 16000 Koins
4000 Koins x 5 = 20000 Koins
6000 Koins x 6 = 36000 Koins
10000 Koins x 5 = 50000 Koins
Total Koins Awarded: 144250 Koins

  • Note: When restarting Story Mode, every fight will be worth a decreased reward of 10 Koins each, for a total of 670 Koins at the end for every time you repeat Story Mode.
