Ages ago, the shapeshifting sorcerer Shang Tsung used this old vessel, the Nethership, to cross the Lost Sea in Earthrealm to the Celestial Portal of Outworld. It was once used to bring warriors from the mainland to Shang Tsung's island fortress for the first Mortal Kombat tournament.
Now this vessel is mainly used as a cargo ship for Shang Tsung to transport the Dragon King's mummified army from the Lost Tomb to his palace. At times, the cruel sorcerer will then carry prisoners in the ship's cages within the cargo hold, further torturing their souls as they await their executions.
The ship was first introduced as Shang Tsung's Sail Barge in the comic Mortal Kombat: Collector's Edition published by Midway, but it was not officially named until the release of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
In ancient times, vessels like these were referred to as ghost ships.
Appearance in other media[]
Before it was introduced in Deadly Alliance, Shang Tsung's boat is featured in Mortal Kombat comic series published by Malibu Comics.
Shang Tsung's boat is named Dragon Wing in the novelization of the 1995 film Mortal Kombat, novel Mortal Kombat, and Hasbro's Mortal Kombat action figures lines.
Shang Tsung's boat also appears in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat. It ported at Pier 40 of Chia Wan Bay, Hong Kong, to bring the invited contestants from the mainland to the island in the Lost Sea for the Mortal Kombat Tournament.
