The centerpiece is a huge granite palace with a giant skull structure which represents Shao Kahn's helmet atop its tower. It is filled with elevators and traps and is ever guarded by Shao Kahn's militia. It contains dungeons and an armory in the lower levels. Also in the lower level lies a hidden cave-like arena and a strange chamber. Between the lower level and the middle level is a first balcony. In the middle level is a huge statue room where the enchanted giant statue of the Konqueror resides, and a balcony. Also within the middle level are a temple-like chapel, and a stairway inside a tower which is part of the fortress, and a pit-like chamber. Between the lower middle and the upper level is a second balcony. The upper level contains a map room and finally a throne room.
It once appeared and emerged within one of the cities of Earthrealm during Shao Kahn's invasion. When Shao Kahn was defeated by Liu Kang and his friends, the fortress began to release massive amounts of energy that consisted of the souls that had been captured by Shao Kahn's forces. The fortress rushed into the portal in the Earth's sky and returned to Outworld. This signaled the end of Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm.
It was sometimes called "The Shao Kahn Tower".
Movie & TV Appearances
Shao Kahn's Fortress (sometimes referred to as Shao Kahn's Palace) made its appearance in the series Mortal Kombat: Conquest. The Emperor's imperial palace sits on a mountain top in a mountainous region in Outworld. It has a appearance of an Asian-styled castle with two eerie claw-like towers each next to the fortress, it has a skull-like feature attached on the citadel's tall tower where the Konqueror's throne room is located.
The Konqueror has another fortress (Shao Kahn's Castle, but also once referred to as the Black Tower reminiscing the Evil Tower) in animated series Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm including its final episode Overthrown as a decadent, towering castle with a claw-like visage in Outworld.
Shao Kahn's Fortress made one more appearance in the second Mortal Kombat film Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but in a different form: a giant dome-like palace with a horned visage, sitting on the top of a mountain and it is still located in the realm of Outworld. It is there during Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm and before the final battle between Liu Kang and his fellow warriors against the Emperor and his generals.
