Liu Kang becoming evil was a huge boost for his value, character-wise as he was looked at as the least interesting hero of all the Earthrealm heroes. Kitana had a turbulent past as a hired assassin for Shao Kahn long ago, so she had some past familiarity with representing evil, by all means.
As a result of Liu Kang, Kitana and maybe Raiden being evil, I would suspect by MK11 that Tanya, Mileena, Rain, Reptile, Goro and Shang Tsung (some of the villains who once feuded with Liu Kang, Kitana and/or Raiden at various points when all were heroes) would've gotten a boost in credibility as fan favorites (storyline wise) since Liu Kang and Kitana currently are the top two villains in the MK universe, much more than even the most despited traitor from Edenia, the royal Edenian Prince, one of Zaterra's last two survivors, a formerly unbeatable Mortal Kombat Tournament Champion, Kitana's twin sister and the former mastermind of the MK Tournament combined.
With Edenia in disarray after Kitana, Jade and Sindel died and became revenants; a case can be made for Tanya to be a hero since she doesn't want the paradisical realm of Edenia staying on as a subset realm of Outworld any longer, Rain (if Tanya's MKX ending is not canon) is the last remaining of the two Edenians technically alive, Mileena might be used as a personal tackle dummy revenant for Kitana to torture, Reptile is given a proper chance under Kotal Kahn's Outworld reign, and Goro & Shang Tsung can revive their feuds with Liu Kang, only this time with Liu Kang as the villain and Goro & Shang being the good guys, just like how Tanya can revive her feuds with Liu Kang and Kitana with the two as villains and Tanya as the hero.
It's unlikely that Mileena would come back as a revenant since the one who turned dead warriors into revenants was Quan Chi and he's dead too. Even if we consider that no one really dies for good in MK universe, there's not much logical reasons to bring back dead characters as revenants just for the sake of it. I think Reptile is not necessarily evil but more of a neutral character who wants to revive the glory of Zaterra by all means necessary. It would be nice to see Shang Tsung as an anti hero, though. Maybe as his final revenge against Liu Kang and Raiden.
I would have to agree with everything except for the only Quan Chi revives thing. The Netherrealm is MKs version of Hell. Evil souls go to the Netherrealm. Even though Quan Chi died, where do you think he's going? He's going back to the Netherrealm. If we are to see Mileena in the next game, it'll be because of Quan Chi making her a revenant.
Yeap, I agree. But I hope NRS won't use this revenant thing again in MK11, I think it would be boring. Also, Quan Chi's main source of power was Shinnok (it can be seen in Jax's chapter in MKX story mode), and he's been defeated by Raiden and as it's shown in the post credit scene in MKX he's not much in a situation where he could serve as a power source to resurect Quan Chi.
Yes, probably that was the case. I hope there's a new series of comics before the new MK game, explaining the events between the end of MKX's Story Mode, when Raiden didn't became corrupted yet, and the post credits scene.
Fair enough. I suppose a brief run of Shinnok getting his ass handed to him by both Cassie Cage and then a corrupted Raiden, which then makes him look sketchy to the Earthrealm heroes, would only take a few pages in a "flashback" sequence.
