As you may have heard, Reptile has been confirmed as the most recent Mortal Kombat X character to be playable. He has a very primeval redesign, with the bone outfit, and a mask that seems to be modeled off of a beak, which can open up like when he speaks in his intro dialogue. I'll ignore how cheesy Kung Lao's response is and note that Reptile speaks for the first time since Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. I think his voice is decent, but a bit high-pitched. But, it's still decent. Onto the combat analysis. Reptile brings back to the table his slide attack, which leaves a trail like it does in MK9. Reptile's Acid Spit also returns, albeit more visible and slightly slower than in MK9, to allow easier dodging. Reptile also brings a combo that starts low; a first in the Mortal Kombat universe and only used before in Injustice with The Flash. After Kung Lao strikes Reptile a few times, the Saurian responds by grabbing Kung Lao, followed by throwing him into the air. Reptile then uses his tongue to trap Kung Lao's legs, slashes his torso twice, then after putting his tongue back in his mouth, punches Kung Lao in the gut.
Reptile also brings a move that was formerly a combo-ender and is now a special move to the table. Kung Lao throws his hat and lets it crawl towards Reptile like a demonic buzzsaw, only for Reptile to leap over the hat and slash Kung Lao.
Reptile then meter-burns the acid spray, which at least in the variation shown, seems to provide a damage over time 'trap' for the foe. Kung Lao also delays getting up, a returning manoeuvre from Mortal Kombat 9. This will be useful for dodging medium and high projectiles like Reptile's spray. Kung gets up and stands in the acid pool briefly, taking damage before teleporting behind Reptile and kicking him from behind. Reptile responds to this by using his Reptile Dash from MK9, but with a punch ending it instead of an elbow.
Reptile then prepares an acid ball with both hands, but fires it with one. This seems to follow a trend where fighters with projectiles fire it with one hand (Raiden and Sub Zero's lightning and ice ball, respectively) while the stronger version is fired with both hands (again, like Sub Zero.) Time will tell, however, if Reptile follows this trend to the point. After firing the ball, Reptile uses his Reptile Dash in order to close the distance with Kung Lao, as the ball hits Kung Lao before the Saurian does. Reptile follows up with an uppercut, then a one-two punch and a combo-grab, where Reptile spews acid at Kung Lao's face before slamming him down. A combo that continues from an uppercut is only shared by one other character in Mortal Kombat X: Kotal Kahn.
Kung Lao responds to the assault with a three-hit Meter Burn Spin that is followed up with a double air kick. Reptile answers with a seven-hit combo: A kick, followed by two claw swipes, with a Reptile Dash thrown in to cover the distance Kung Lao flies, followed by a three-hit slashing combo that ends with a double knee. Reptile briefly turns invisible as Kung Lao throws his hat, and it hovers. Reptile then uses his X-Ray, which has a hit of Armor that goes through the hat. The X-Ray attack is devastating: Reptile seperates Kung Lao's jaw, then gouges out his eyes, then finishes it off byÂ
crushing his skull with his hands and some help with the dock in The Cove. To Finish Kung Lao, Reptile spews acid in his face, melting his face down to the bone. As Kung Lao screams in pain, Reptile runs towards him and jams his thumbs into Kung Lao's eye sockets. The end result is not shown, but I think one of two outcomes is possible. One: Reptile rips Kung Lao's head clean off, or Two: Kung Lao's head is ripped in half by Reptile. A quick note: This is the third time I had to write the article due to some stupid stuff that the Wiki site decided to pull, but it is finished. And as always: Thanks for reading.
