—Triborg to Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat X

Triborg is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. A member of the cyberized version of the Lin Kuei, he is the last remaining cyborg of the Cyber Initiative. Triborg seeks genocide across all the realms in a bid to restore the Cyber Lin Kuei.

Triborg made his debut as a playable character in Mortal Kombat X as DLC as part of the Kombat Pack 2. He later reappears as a playable character in Mortal Kombat Mobile.

About Triborg

Before the Lin Kuei Grandmaster's death, he had all members of the clan participate in tests, and unbeknownst to them, they were all secretly recorded and had their data stored in an undisclosed location. After Sub-Zero had killed Sektor and single-handedly defeated the Lin Kuei, the Special Forces located the secret data storage and attempted to process it into a test body at an SF lab. During this process, the consciousnesses of Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke and even Cyber Sub-Zero merged together. This consciousness, giving itself the title of Triborg, killed every Special Forces member at the lab and escaped. "He" has made it his ultimate mission to seek and destroy all organic life, as well as re-establish the Cyber Lin Kuei under his rule.

Furthermore, Triborg is a very advanced model of the Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative, being far more successful than Sektor due to him having the data of many Lin Kuei assassins in his databanks, thus making him a very dangerous opponent. His signature trait is that he is capable of perfectly replicating the fighting styles, arsenal and abilities of four previous members of the Lin Kuei: Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and Sub-Zero.

Triborg was the last of the original Cyber Lin Kuei after its destruction by Sub-Zero. The Cyber Lin Kuei would be restored in Mortal Kombat 11 by the Keeper of Time Kronika, however Triborg is never seen, with his whereabouts being completely unknown.

Appearance

Triborg's cyborg body is much smoother and streamlined when compared to the bulkier designs of the original Cyber Lin Kuei; though he retains the wire "hair" extensions emerging from the back of his skull like all previous models. Several sections of his armor contain small rockets for jet propulsion and a central power node is visible on his chest that glows the same color as his eyes no matter what variation he is in. Due to his ability to replicate the powers of previous Cyber Lin Kuei, his armor changes color and helmet design depending on which variation he is using.

With his advanced shapeshifting abilities, Triborg is a far more advanced Cyber Lin Kuei. With each cyborg ninja he replicates, his armor and faceplate morph into that respective ninja;

  • Triborg's primary, unaltered appearance is that of a grey cyborg. This appearance is present when inspecting the character before a match, however it is never shown in any other way except when previewing the character's picture in the Kollection.
  • As Sektor, Triborg's entire body becomes red and his faceplate morphs into one similar to Sektor. Additionally, his abilities are now that of Sektor, gaining the use of Sektor's rockets, teleportation and flamethrower.
  • As Cyrax, Triborg's entire body becomes yellow and his faceplate morphs into one similar to Cyrax. Additionally, his abilities are now that of Cyrax, gaining the use of Cyrax's bombs, net abilities, teleportation and power grab.
  • As Smoke, Triborg's entire body becomes a blackish-grey but his faceplate remains unchanged. Alternatively, selecting his alternate colors while morphed as Smoke will change his entire body purple, similar to Smoke's cyborg appearance in MK3. While in this form, smoke clouds surround his body, similar to Smoke. Additionally, his abilities are now that of Smoke, gaining the use of Smoke's spear, teleportation and disappearing abilities.
  • As Cyber Sub-Zero, Triborg's entire body becomes blue and just like when he morphs into Smoke, his faceplate remains unchanged from his original form. Alternatively, selecting his alternate colors while morphed as Cyber Sub-Zero turns his entire body grey, completely resembling his default form, however the wires in his arms and body become light blue. Also while in this form, frost comes from his entire body, similar to how the frost comes from Sub-Zero's arms due to his Cryomancy. Additionally, his abilities are now that of Sub-Zero and his cyborg form, gaining ice based weapons, frost bombs, jet attacks, Sub-Zero's slide and freezing abilities.

Combat Characteristics

Powers and Abilities

Triborg, in terms of physical mass and strength, is similar to that of Sektor and Cyrax, due to being a Lin Kuei cyborg. He is extremely powerful, and quick, as he can punch an opponent multiple times within the span of two seconds.

He is special version of the Cyber Lin Kuei, as he is able to switch between the bodies of Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke, and Cyber Sub-Zero. With Sektor's body, he gains his missiles, flamethrower, and teleporting abilities. With Cyrax, he has his bombs, net, and buzzsaw. With Smoke, he gains his Spear, Smoke Bombs, and teleporting abilities. Lastly, with Cyber Sub-Zero, he gains ice-themed cybernetic weapons and some of Sub-Zero's iconic moves. Additionally, he can call upon

Signature Moves

  • Straight Missile: Opening his chest, Triborg fires a missile that hits the opponent square in the chest. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Havoc Missiles, which has Triborg shooting four smaller missiles in a rainbow style arc. Triborg has a very brief moment of combo extensions if all the missiles connect; otherwise, the opponent is knocked away.
  • Lock-On Missiles: Triborg fires three small missiles from his back, which land on the opponent consecutively. The attack can be used at different ranges, called Front/Behind Lock-On Missiles, respectively. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Homing Missile. Triborg fires a single, larger, missile which is locked on and will always follow the opponent. This missile travels indefinitely until it hits its target but travels much slower than Lock-On Missiles.
  • Teleport Uppercut: Triborg teleports into the ground through lines of codes, reappearing behind the opponent, uppercutting them into the air for a juggle. This move can be performed in the air, called Air Teleport Uppercut, respectively. Using this attack twice during a combo will knock the opponent to the ground, ending the current combo. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Teleport Slam, in which after uppercutting the opponent, Triborg fires beams from his hands, bouncing the opponent, allowing for continued combo extension. The airborne version is called Air Teleport Slam.
    • Triborg may also spend an additional bar of Super Meter to add an Air Cyber Slam after performing a Teleport Uppercut, or after a blocked Teleport Slam.
  • Flame Burner: Triborg uses Sektor's flamethrower and lights the opponent on fire. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Flame Thrower, which has armor on start-up, and has Triborg sprays the flamethrowers on both of his hands in an arc, doing massive damage. This version can easily strike airborne opponents.
  • Air Cyber Charge: While airborne, Triborg uses his jet beams in his hands and feet to charge towards his opponent, knocking them down. Triborg can also use this attack during combos where he jumps into the air. (MKX - Sektor (LT-9T9) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Air Cyber Slam, and does more damage.
  • Net: With Cyrax's abilities, Triborg fires a net from his chest, which traps the opponent and sets them up for a free hit or extended combos. Triborg can not utilize Net if he has used any version of Bomb or Hover Bomb during a combo before using Net. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Advanced Net, and it takes away 1/2 bar of Super Meter from the opponent. As with Net, Triborg can not utilize Advanced Net if he has used any version of Bomb or Hover Bomb during a combo before using Advanced Net.
  • Chest Saw: Triborg extends a saw blade from his chest to strike the opponent, slicing their chest area before falling to the ground. The attack creates knockback if blocked by the opponent. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Buzzsaw, which has Triborg instead fire a buzzsaw projectile from his chest, holding the opponent in the air for extend combos. Triborg recovers from the attack and activates the attack much faster while also being neutral when the attack is blocked.
  • Bomb: Triborg fires a bomb from his chest that lands on the ground, and explodes after a few seconds, launching the opponent in the air for extended combos. The attack can be used at different ranges, called Close/Far Bomb, respectively. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced versions are called Blitz Bomb, which makes the bombs detonate on contact instead of on a timer while retaining the same juggle effect.
  • Scatter-Port: Triborg's limbs and body separate and go away, before reappearing behind the opponent, joined back together. Triborg can also teleport in front of the opponent called Front Scatter-Port. Triborg can also use the attack in the air, called Air Scatter-Port respectively and has the same properties. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Shrapnel-Port, has armor on start-up. If the opponent is near Triborg when he teleports, they will take damage. Triborg also activates and recovers from the attack faster.
  • Power Grab: Triborg grabs the opponent mid-air, then uses his jet boots to fly overhead with the opponent, then goes back down upside down, smashing the opponent's head onto the floor in the opposite direction. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Power Slam, which has a pop-up at the end, allowing for a combo extension.
  • Hover Bomb: Triborg fires a bomb from his chest that hovers in the air. After a few seconds, it will detonate. The bomb's explosion can launch the opponent in the air, allowing extension of combos. The attack can be used at different ranges, called Close/Far Hover Bomb, respectively. Triborg can launch up to a max of three bombs at a time as well as only three of the same type of bombs and must wait for the first bomb to detonate before releasing the same bomb again. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Smart Bomb, which detonates on contact with the opponent. The damage and juggle effect remain the same.
  • Trident: Triborg fires three hooks from his chest, which he uses to pull his opponent towards him, stunning them and setting them up for a free hit. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Tri-Cution, where, instead of pulling the opponent in closer, Triborg grabs the trident and sends an electrical charge through it, electrocuting the opponent and dealing double the original damage. The stun effect remains the same. This attack is completely unavailable if Trident has already connected during the combo.
  • Smoke Cloud: Triborg throws down a smoke ball at the feet of his opponent where, if it successfully hits, the opponent will be teleported above Triborg, allowing for combo extensions. If Triborg does not attack the opponent when they teleport and instead lets them fall and hit the ground, they take damage, however attacking them while they are airborne heavily reduces the damage of the attack at the expense of juggling the opponent. The attack can also be used at different ranges, called Close/Far Smoke Cloud, respectively. Additionally, the attack can strike airborne opponents during a combo. Connecting two Smoke Clouds in the same combo causes the second smoke ball to knock the opponent off their feet, ending the current combo. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Smoke Bomb, which deals increased damage, activates much faster and allows Triborg to be much safer if this version of the attack is blocked by the opponent. Additionally, Triborg can continue combos using Smoke Bomb that he otherwise could not use with Smoke Cloud. As with Smoke Cloud, if Triborg does not attack the opponent when they teleport and instead lets them fall and hit the ground, they take damage, however attacking them while they are airborne heavily reduces the damage of the attack at the expense of juggling the opponent. Also, the attack can also be used at different ranges, called Close/Far Smoke Bomb, respectively.
  • Fade-Port: Triborg disappears through smoke, then reappears above the opponent, dropping on them. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Smoke-Port, in which at the end Triborg throws his opponent upwards, allowing combo extensions.
  • Smoke Away/Forward: Triborg disappears into smoke before appearing further back or behind the opponent. Performing this either version of this move requires and drains half a bar of stamina. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • The enhanced versions are called Phase Away/Forward, and they allow Triborg to disappear faster and go longer distances, as well as removing the stamina meter cost, but at the cost of Super Meter.
  • Dissipate: Triborg becomes invisible from a cloud of smoke, though his body will still distort light. If this move is performed twice in a row, Triborg will become visible again. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Evaporate, and allows Triborg to be completely invisible with no indication of where he is or what attack he delivers, however his Trident and Smoke Cloud will be visible when the attacks are used.
  • Air Smoke Storm: Triborg grabs his opponent mid-air and spins around as a gas of smoke engulfs them. He then throws them away. Triborg can choose which direction he throws his opponent. (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
  • Drone: Triborg summons a drone from his chest that follows him around as he fights that can alter the effects of some of his specials and combos. Triborg can summon a maximum of 3 Drones and a Drone is consumed when altering a specific special or combo. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Multi-Drones and summons 3 drones at once. If other Drones are active, Triborg will summon the available number of Drones that are not present. If Triborg is attacked when summoning the Drones, it can interrupt and prevent additional Drones from being summoned. Multi-Drones can not be performed if Triborg already has 3 Drones active.
  • Ice Ball: Triborg fires a transparent ice ball from his chest that freezes his opponent in place, allowing for a free hit.(MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Ice Beam, where Triborg fires a beam of ice from his chest to freeze the opponent. Triborg sends the beam of ice for some time, however it stops immediately if blocked. If Triborg is struck before the beam makes contact with the opponent, it will stop the beam in its entirety, which can also prevent the opponent from being frozen. Additionally, the beam itself can freeze the opponents instead of the initial hit, where it can freeze airborne opponents that jump and avoid the initial hit.
    • If a Drone is active, both versions of the attack now have shards of ice in them when either projectile is sent at the opponent, causing a damage-over-time effect should they successfully hit in addition to freezing the opponent. Additionally, the Drone causes both attacks to deal chip damage if they are blocked by the opponent.
  • Slide: Triborg slides through ice, knocking the opponent off their feet.(MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is Slide and Strike, which has Triborg summon ice spikes from the ground to strike the opponent for increased damage.
  • Air Far/Close Dive Kick: Triborg jumps into the air, and using his jet boost, kicks his opponent in the chest mid-air. This can be done from afar or close. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • The enhanced versions are called Air Far/Close Power Kick, where Triboprg freezes the opponent on contact and slides across the ground on top of the opponent before backflipping off the opponent's body, defrosting them and dealing increased damage.
    • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to add a brief damage-over-time effect while he freezes the opponent and slides across the ground on them. The effect ends after Triborg performs the backfilp.
  • Ice Bomb: Triborg fires an ice bomb from his chest, which explodes after a few seconds, briefly launching the opponent into the air and freezing them in place, setting them up for a free hit. The attack can be used at different ranges, called Close/Far Ice Bomb, respectively. Triborg can launch up to a max of three bombs at a time of each type but can only use them once each during a combo. Ice Bomb is unavailable if the opponent has been frozen by any of Triborg's effects that freeze the opponent or if an Ice Bomb has already successfully hit the opponent during a combo. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • The enhanced version is called Cryo Bomb, which, upon detonation, creates a patch of ice on the fightline for a moment where if the opponent steps into it, their legs will freeze in place, setting them up for a free hit. If the opponent happens to fall onto the patch during a combo or jumping into it, it re-stands the opponent in the process. Cyro Bomb offers no damage at all unlike the original at the expense of the ice trap it creates on the fightline.
    • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to add a damage-over-time effect to both attacks, where when Ice Bomb freezes the opponent, they are affected by a damage-over-time effect while Cryo Bomb gains the same damage-over-time when it traps the opponent.

X-Ray

  • X-Ray - Cyber Initiative: Triborg throws his head towards the opponent's head, breaking the skull. The body flies into the opponent's abdomen, breaking the ribcage. The body then grabs the opponent, flies upward in an arc and slams the opponent to the ground headfirst, breaking their neck. (MKX)
    • Depending on the variation selected, Triborg's X-Ray start-up is altered:
      • Sektor - Triborg fires a large missile to start his X-Ray.
      • Cyrax - Triborg opens his chest cavity and causes an upward, diagonal explosion to start his X-Ray.
      • Smoke - Triborg teleports twice, punching the opponent to start his X-Ray.
      • Cyber Sub-Zero - Triborg freezes his entire body. He is given various options after this is done;
        • Triborg can delay his X-Ray, turning it into a parry. If the opponent strikes him, they will freeze, giving Triborg the option to initiate the X-Ray where he strikes them with an Ice Mace or cancel it and leaving them frozen in place for a free hit. This parry effect is capable of parrying the start-up of X-Ray attacks, with the exception of projectile-based X-Ray start-ups.
        • Triborg can immediately strike the opponent with an Ice Mace instead of delaying his X-Ray, immediately starting up his X-Ray. This requires an additional button input in addition to the normal X-Ray button start-up.

Other Moves

  • Throw: Triborg grabs his opponent, kicking them in the knee, forcing them to kneel, where he unleashes a barrage of quick punches to the opponent's face before knocking them away with a final uppercut. (MKX)
  • Collision Sensors: Triborg knees his opponent then knocks them away with a front-flip kick. This combo allows Triborg to use airborne attacks he otherwise couldn't use with other combos. (MKX)
  • System Lock: Triborg performs two quick punches. This combo has follow-up attacks. (MKX)
    • User Error: Triborg performs a rolling, overhead kick, knocking the opponent to the ground. (MKX)
      • Triborg can also perform an additional follow-up final hit to the combo that changes based on which variation is selected with the exception of Smoke (LK-7T2):
      • System Hack: Triborg dispenses a large flame from his chest, knocking the opponent away. Triborg can follow-up with special attacks after the opponent is knocked away. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
      • Detonation: Triborg shoots a bomb from his chest that bounces off the opponent, then detonates, knocking them away. Triborg will only shoot the bomb if the second punch connects. Deals more damage than System Hack. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
      • Ice Blast: Triborg dispenses an ice burst from his chest that knock the opponent away full screen distance. Unlike in the Sektor Variation, Triborg can not follow-up with special attacks after knocking the opponent away with this combo. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
        • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to add additional damage to the ice burst, however the knockback effect is reduced as a result.
  • Rotator Cut: Triborg delivers an overhead chop to the opponent's head. The follow-up attacks he may perform afterwards depend on the variation selected; (MKX)
    • Virus Uploaded: Triborg punches the opponent in the abdomen, electrocuting them and slams them on the ground in the opposite direction. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9)/ Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
      • Triborg, as Sektor only, can enhance this combo which will bounce the opponent off the ground for a juggle instead of just slamming them.
    • The Grinder: Triborg turns his hand into a buzz saw, forcing the opponent to the ground to slice them from the chest to the waist and then throws them away on the ground, sliding them forward. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • Dry Ice: Triborg freezes his opponent in place before slamming them on the ground in the opposite direction. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
      • This combo can be enhanced which has Triborg simply leave his opponent in place once he freezes them, allowing for setting them up for a free hit.
      • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to add a damage-over-time effect while he freezes the opponent. The damage-over-time effect can still be applied when enhancing the combo.
  • Base Link: Triborg performs a series of advancing strikes with the final double palm blast knocking the opponent away. This is very similar to Sektor's Blast Palm. (MKX - Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • Force Sensor: After performing Base Link, Triborg can propel himself backwards away from the opponent using his jets in his hands which separates him from the opponent rather than knocking them away. Triborg is offered the use of special attacks after. This combo re-stands the opponent in addition to requiring and spending half a bar of stamina.
  • Head Blast: Triborg cocks back his arm, now armed with a bomb, and strikes the opponent, detonating the bomb and bouncing them in the air for a juggle. If Triborg connects a neutral jump punch after this attack has connected, the opponent will fall to the ground, ending the juggle. However the attack can still juggle if a neutral jump punch hits first. (MKX - Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
  • Deadly Vapor: Triborg lunges forward to punch the opponent then teleports through smoke, appearing behind them to punch them a second time. This combo can be performed from any where in an arena. Additionally, this combo has follow-up attacks; (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • Korrupt Kloud: After teleporting, Triborg teleports a third time, sliding on the ground, sweeping the opponent's legs, knocking them off their feet.
    • Hyper Haze: After teleporting, Triborg teleports a third time, jumping into the air to kick the opponent in the face, knocking them away. This final kick can miss ducking opponents.
  • Smokin': Triborg delivers a spinning backhand then slams the ground with his fist, damaging the opponent while vanishing into a cloud of smoke. Triborg is briefly invisible while in the smoke, however not performing an attack after reveals his location. This combo has follow-up attacks; (MKX - Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • Ashes To Ashes: After the smoke cloud slam, Triborg sweeps the opponent with his leg, knocking them off their feet.
    • Dust To Dust: After the smoke cloud slam, Triborg jumps into the air to kick the opponent in the face, knocking them away. This final kick can miss ducking opponents.
  • Kold Strike: Triborg slides backwards, cocking back his arm and forming an ice mace, striking the opponent and bouncing them off the ground and into the air for a juggle. This attack acts as a neutral jump punch if it connects. If Triborg connects a neutral jump punch after this attack has connected, the opponent will fall to the ground, ending the juggle. This attack requires and drains half of Triborg's Stamina. The attack's actual strike can be cancelled prematurely by activating a special attack or even using an interactable, should Triborg slide backwards near one. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation)
    • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to alter the juggle effect, allowing for a Neutral Jump Punch to be performed after without ending the juggle effect. Additionally, the attack becomes safe if blocked by the opponent and creates knockback.
  • Frozen Stab: Triborg lunges forward, his arm now an ice blade, and stabs his opponent high, knocking them away and knocking them to the ground. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O Variation)
  • Ice Strike: Triborg performs an advancing chop then slams his fist on the ground, forming Ice Stalagmites that knock the opponent off their feet. Triborg is offered a brief moment of an additional attack, however this window increases greatly when utilizing this combo in the corner of an arena. (MKX - Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O Variation)
    • If a Drone is active, Triborg can consume the drone to alter the combo to produce a large juggle effect, regardless of where he is in the area, where the Ice Stalagmites greatly increase in size and launch the opponent in the air for a juggle. The damage remains the same, however when using this in a combo, sometimes the damage of the combo may be slightly reduced.

Fatalities

  • Team Work: Triborg teleports to the opponent and transforms into Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke who surround the opponent. Cyrax slices through the opponent's neck with his saw blade whilst Smoke uses his spear to impale them in the chest, ripping their heart with his Trident. Cyrax and Smoke then grab the stumbling opponent, flying into the air with the opponent, where Sektor, who remained on the ground, uses his jets to fly upward with a powerful Rocket Punch that tears the opponent in half from the head to the groin. Cyrax and Smoke then return to the ground with both halves of the opponent where Sektor returns shortly after with the opponent's head, laughing as all three hold up their respective parts of the opponent. (MKX)
  • Death Machine: Triborg transforms into a machine that comprises a saw blade, a compactor, and two harpoons. The harpoons impale the opponent and pull them chest-first into the saw blade. The compactor then activates and crushes the opponent to a bloody pulp, despite their attempts to push it back. The machine then spits out a compacted cube of the opponent's remains. (MKX)

Brutalities

Mortal Kombat X

  • Friendship: Triborg performs his Throw, but the finishing uppercut ends up destroying the opponent's torso, sending the upper limbs and head flying, as well as pieces of the spine. This Brutality can be altered to include a Cyber Ninja within Triborg's databanks, as listed below. If Triborg performs this Brutality while the opponent is in the corner of the area or too close to the wall, a Cyber Ninja will not be summoned to support.
    • Sektor Assist - After uppercutting his opponent, Sektor performs a Teleport Uppercut that bisects the opponent in half at the waist. (Any Variation except for Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
    • Cyrax Assist - After uppercutting his opponent, Cyrax appears and fires a Bomb at the opponent, destroying the opponent in an explosion of gore, leaving only their lower legs and head behind. (Any Variation except for Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
    • Smoke Assist - After uppercutting his opponent, Smoke appears and fires a Smoke Bomb from his chest, engulfing the opponent in smoke that melts the opponent's flesh off in a shower of gore. Their smoking skeleton then fall from the gas as it dissipates, it crumpling into a heap. (Any Variation except for Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
    • Cyber Sub-Zero Assist - After uppercutting his opponent, Cyber Sub-Zero appears and performs an Ice Beam at the opponent, freezing them solid in mid-air. After a few seconds of mid-air suspension, the frozen opponent then drops and shatters into multiple pieces of ice. (Any Variation except for Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-520) Variation - Secret)
  • Head Strong: Triborg performs his X-Ray, but when he throws his head at the opponent, the opponent is decapitated by the force. Triborg's head settles on the enemy's shoulders, and performs his Brutality Victory Pose with his opponent's body, while his original body collapses and sparks.
  • Incoming: Triborg performs a Straight Missile that lodges into the opponent's chest. The opponent begins to panic as Triborg performs his Brutality Victory Pose, only for the missile to explode, leaving the opponent's entire upper body a charred skeleton. (Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation)
  • HEAD'S UP: Triborg performs a Power Grab, with the slam to the ground destroying the opponent's head on impact. (Cyrax (LK-4D4) Variation)
  • Spear On The Head: Triborg performs a Trident, ripping off the opponent's arms and head as the spear retracts. As Triborg performs his Brutality Victory Pose, the opponent's head is idly ejected from his chest cavity. (Smoke (LK-7T2) Variation)
  • Flame Thrower: Triborg performs a Flame Burner, immolating his opponent alive. (Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation - Secret)
  • Target Acquired: Triborg performs a Homing Missile, but when it hits the opponent, their body explodes, leaving behind their lower legs and head. (Sektor (LK-9T9) Variation - Secret)
  • Ice Solo: Triborg performs an Ice Beam, freezing his opponents into a huge slab of ice. Depending on where the finisher is performed, after winning, Triborg will either perform his Brutality Victory Pose by himself or be joined by Sektor and Cyrax. (Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation - Secret)
  • Icy Skateboard: Triborg performs an Air Far/Close Power Kick, but when Triborg back-flips off the opponent, it bifurcates the opponent, defrosting the upper half while leaving their lower half frozen. (Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation - Secret)
  • Have an Ice Day: Triborg performs either an Ice Ball, an Ice Beam or freezes his opponent by performing his X-Ray and cancels it, then performs an uppercut, shattering the opponent's head while their body remains frozen. (Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) Variation - Secret)

Trivia

General

  • Triborg is the first pure cyborg featured in the series as a playable character.
    • Additionally, he is the first playable cyborg to not be a known human fighter, rather a cyborg programmed with the databanks of previous characters.
    • Triborg is also the first cyborg in the series with the ability to shapeshift and mimic the fighting styles and abilities of other characters, these being Sektor, Cyrax, Cyber Smoke, and Cyber Sub-Zero.
  • In Sektor's Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, he, Cyrax, and Smoke merged together and became one mind through the power of Blaze. The idea is similar to the concept behind Triborg.
  • He is the first of the Cyber Lin Kuei to be a playable character that was not originally human beforehand.
  • Despite his ability to manipulate ice like a cryomancer in similar fashions like Bi-Han, Kuai Liang, and Frost, Triborg himself is not actually a cryomancer.
  • With Triborg's inclusion in the game as DLC, Mortal Kombat X features two fighters from the main rival clans; Scorpion and Takeda of the Shirai Ryu and Sub-Zero and Triborg of the Lin Kuei.
    • Triborg is also the only cyborg featured in the game as a playable character.
  • Although classified as a cyborg, Triborg is entirely robotic (unlike the previous Lin Kuei cyborgs). Triborg merely possesses archived data of Lin Kuei ninjas to emulate their powers and behavior.
    • Despite this, Triborg still displays "cyberized" versions of the internal organs seen in all players when a Fatality is performed on them.
  • Triborg is the second of two new non-guest character to be introduced to the series as DLC, the first was Skarlet.
    • Of the two, only Skarlet has returned as a playable character, with her inclusion in Mortal Kombat 11. Triborg appears in the game in minor cameos, but not as a physical, playable character (See Below).
  • The way each cyborg ninja is selected as a variation of Triborg could have been used as inspiration as to how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are selected in the DC fighting game Injustice 2, being able to play as each individual Turtle as Triborg can play as each of the ninjas in his databank.
    • Another similarity is how each Turtle has their own combos, appearances, and special attacks, much like how Triborg plays.
      • They even have a different start up for their Supermove and assist each other during a fight, but not to finish the opponent, unlike Triborg.

Mortal Kombat X

  • Triborg is the only playable character in the game with almost entirely different movesets per variation.
    • Triborg is also the only playable character with a fourth character variation. In order to select his Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-52O) form, the player must tap up twice and then press Triangle (PS4) or Y (Xbox One), which is normally the variation-less option.
      • Due to this, Triborg is the only character that can not be selected in a variationless form.
    • His Cyber Sub-Zero and Smoke forms share the same facial appearance.
    • His Cyber Sub-Zero form, in an alternate color scheme, resembles Triborg before finding Sektor's remaining parts as seen from the Kombat Pack 2 trailer.
  • When using his Smoke variation, selecting the alternative color for him will turn his armor purple, a reference to Smoke's original color scheme from Mortal Kombat 3.
  • Triborg's Brutality Flame Thrower as well as Death Machine Fatality are a reference to Sektor's Fatalities in Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Mortal Kombat Gold.
  • Triborg's in-game fighting stance is the klassic ninja fighting stance from Mortal Kombat 3.
  • When Triborg interacts with most characters, he seems to represent himself as an individual with multiple Lin Kuei assassins' abilities. When interacting with Sub-Zero, he refers to himself as Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke as one being rather than himself as an individual.
    • He will do similar interactions with Goro as he did with Sub-Zero, saying the match up with Goro is "Three against one".
    • Triborg compares himself to Ermac when Ermac states he is "not a singular being", questioning Ermac by saying "Are you not one as well?".
  • When Erron Black performs his X-Ray, the names written on the bullet depend on what variation Triborg chose; Sektor, Cyrax, and Smoke.
    • Also, Triborg as Cyber Sub-Zero shares the same name on the bullet with Kuai Liang.
  • Triborg, in a technical sense, has the most Brutalities with 14 Brutalities, if one would count the alternative versions of his Friendship Brutality as their own separate incarnations.
    • Triborg is the second Mortal Kombat X character to have at least ten brutalities, the first being Tremor who has eleven.
  • Due to a programming oversight, it is impossible to view Triborg in his original form in the Kollection or even use it in Test Your Might due to the fact that Cyber Sub-Zero is selected by the means which one would normally select the "variationless" version of a character.
    • It should be noted though that his Smoke and Cyber Sub-Zero variations bear the exact same head frame as Triborg's, albeit recolored to match theirs. His alternate color scheme also grants him his original colorless form, albeit with his wiring changed to a light blue color.
    • The only way to view this form is to simply hover over his character emblem in the character selection.
    • A glitch will occur, however, if a player has selected Triborg's variationless form while playing Survivor and they are the current King, his original form will be in a fighting stance waiting for the opposing player to select their fighter (See Errors).
  • Triborg is one of two characters whose appearance is completely changed based on which variation is chosen. The second is Leatherface.
    • While all other characters receive a minor appearance change to identify which variation is being used, Triborg's entire appearance is completely altered with a different faceplate and a different color.
  • Triborg's X-Ray as Cyber Sub-Zero is one of two X-Rays in the game that can be activated by an additional button input. The first was Scorpion.
    • Pressing both triggers and/or holding them will turn his X-Ray into a parry, while pressing 2/Y/Triangle in addition to pressing both triggers will make him strike immediately with an ice mace.
    • With Scorpion, holding a directional input in addition to the triggers has him teleport behind the opponent rather than charge forward.
  • Triborg is the only character, if Shinnok is excluded, that knows the Predator is an extraterrestrial creature.
    • Other characters will simply comment on his face being ugly, him being terrifying or that the Predator "does not belong here", where as Triborg will tell the Predator to "Go hide amongst the stars".
      • With its rival, Alien, many of the characters know that the Alien is an extraterrestrial creature.
  • When playing as Cyber Sub-Zero, during a Fatality, Triborg will never kill the opponent in the form of Cyber Sub-Zero, only as Smoke, Sektor, and Cyrax.
  • Due to being four characters in one, Triborg has the most special attacks out of any character in MKX.

Mortal Kombat Mobile

  • His Cyber Sub-Zero Card was the first character to introduce the Frostbite debuff.
    • With Update 2.0, many characters can now inflict this debuff, most notably Kold War Sub-Zero and MK11 Sub-Zero.
  • His Cyber Sub-Zero Card was originally the second Gold Card to apply an effect with his Combo-Ender. The first was Kung Jin.
  • All of Triborg’s playable character cards have a base Power Generation of 120%, with the exception of his Cyber Sub-Zero Card.
  • His X-Ray has the same start-up for all his cards unlike in Mortal Kombat X where each Variation had a different start-up for their X-Ray.
  • Triborg’s Cyrax Card is currently the only character that grants increased Critical Damage to any and all character cards rather than to a Class or Subclass of characters.
  • Cyber Sub-Zero Triborg and Kold War Sonya are the only characters that produce an Ice Shield from their Passives. Both of their Ice Shields work differently;
    • Sonya - Is given to her and her teammates. Lasts 8 seconds for all teammates but lasts forever until a special is used on her and her Kold War teammates.
    • Triborg - Gains one on tag-in. Lasts 5 seconds.
  • Klassic Smoke originally used Triborg's attacks and fighting stance, from when Triborg transforms into Smoke, with the exception of his X-Ray, which is taken from Smoke's appearance in in Mortal Kombat (2011). In later updates, Smoke's fighting stance was changed, however his attacks remained unchanged.

Mortal Kombat 11

  • Triborg cameos as one of the many non-physical tower modifiers in the Towers of Time.
    • Also, in the game's Krypt, Triborg's head frames as Cyber Sub-Zero and Sektor are Kollector Trade Items, however they are not listed as Triborg's despite using the model.
    • Additionally in the Towers of Time, there is a consumable that features Cyrax's head and his cyborg numbers, LK-4D4. However, just like Cyber Sub-Zero and Sektor's head frame, the head is actually Triborg's head frame when he transforms into Cyrax.
  • During Frost's Fatality, Cyber Initiative, Frost uploads her opponent's brain and spinal column into a Cyber Lin Kuei body. Once the upload is complete, the body's eyes light up and a laugh can be heard. The laugh is identical to Triborg's laugh during his Team Work Fatality.
  • Cyrax and Sektor are non-playable characters that the player fights in the game's Story Mode and also make physical support appearances in the Towers of Time, appearing on the fightline and attacking for the character they are supporting. When observing them, they perform their attacks nearly identical to how Triborg performed them in MKX when he shapeshifted into either Sektor or Cyrax, in addition to them borrowing new combos from Triborg.
    • When observing their abilities, many of the combos, specials and additional attacks are imported from Mortal Kombat X from Triborg.
  • In the Towers of Time, the final Tower of Stage 22 of the Gauntlet is named after Triborg, which features Frost as the final boss with Cyrax, Sektor and Smoke assisting her as non-physical modifiers during the fight.

Errors

  • Triborg's right thigh clips into his hips during gameplay.
  • Triborg's chin will clip into his collar bone area during interactions.
  • When a Fatality is performed on Triborg, his wire hair will clip through anything and any character.
  • As stated above, Triborg can be viewed in his original form when playing Survivor online. This is incorrect, however, as his variationless form is that of Cyber Sub-Zero yet Cyber Sub-Zero is not the one who will approach during selection.
  • When Triborg swaps bodies with Goro after performing his Head Strong Brutality, Goro's arms that don't raise will clip through each other.
  • Resetting the match in Practice multiple times while Triborg is selected will change the placement of his wire-hair;
    • Instead of being grouped together hanging down behind his back, they will be all over his shoulders and back.
    • Eventually, the wire hair will clip through Triborg entirely as it hangs.
  • When Triborg performs his Spear On The Head Brutality in an online match, it takes a second to register, making it look like his Trident disappears for a moment.
  • When swapping bodies during his Head Strong Brutality, Triborg's wire hair will clip through the torso of the new body he assumes.
  • When playing as Cyber Sub-Zero, Triborg's neutral jump punch attacks do not actually have to make contact with the opponent to bounce them. This is similar to other characters with longer ranged neutral jump punch attacks like Raiden, Takeda and Kung Jin.
    • This also seems to be the same for Cyber Smoke and Sektor.
  • As noted in the Signature Moves with his Ice Beam, if Triborg is attacked right as he shoots the beam, it will stop immediately and vanish as Triborg stumbles. Logically this makes no sense as to why the beam disappears from thin air once he is attacked.
    • This is likely due the attack not being a traditional stun projectile as the attack covers the whole arena.
      • Additionally, when Triborg is attacked right as the beam connects with the opponent, it can give the illusion that the opponent freezes in place on their own.
  • If Triborg as Cyber Sub-Zero were to turn his X-Ray into a parry and is attacked with a jump punch, there is a chance that the icicles formed on his body will begin to float in the air and remain in the air in the arena until the match is ended. It is unknown whether or not this glitch has been corrected.
  • If Triborg as Cyber Sub-Zero wins a round against Ferra and Torr with a Drone damage-over-time affect, Ferra will have a frozen appearance. This glitch can be removed by simply using a special attack or combo that involves using/throwing Ferra.
  • In MK Mobile, when Triborg as Smoke performs his Ashes to Ashes Special 2, the attack's second hit always misses the opponent, however it will connect when used in the corner of an arena.
